A new year – and new decade – is upon us. If your resolution isn’t “travel more,” it should be! Whether you want to travel for vacation time, travel for learning experiences, or travel to make great memories with loved ones, there is a destination that is perfect for you.
Here are our top 3 bucket list destinations for your travel and vacation needs in 2020 and beyond.
- Morocco, North Africa
Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Morocco is a country with African, Arab, and European influences. Depending where you visit – they have cheap, reliable trains to get you from here to there – you could see dashing mountain ranges; stretching lengths of beach; vast golden deserts; ancient cities like Fez, Marrakesh, Meknes and Rabat; and more.
If you’re a heat seeker, then plan your trip for July (their hottest month). If you are looking for some solitude, try April, May or September to November as these are their shoulder seasons and will let you avoid the crowds. Whenever you go, you should visit a designer’s oasis in Marrakech or stop by a traditional Moroccan bathhouse, called a hammam. You can also check out the popular cafes in Tangier, like Café Hafa and Café Baba.

- Egypt, Israel, & Jordan, North Africa
These three countries are close enough together that you can see them all in a single, well-planned trip. However, there is so much to do in each one of them that there is no doubt you’ll be coming back for more. All three boast a Mediterranean Sea coastline as well as a connection to shores of the Red Sea. You may hear this country trio called “Pilgrim Tour” or “Pilgrimage” because of the locations’ historical religious significance.
In Egypt, you’ll be greeted by the Sphynx and the beautiful, daunting mysteries of the ancient pyramids and the tombs and traps housed within. Israel has much to see but stand-out experiences include the Western Wall in Jerusalem – where tourists are encouraged to leave a written prayer – and the archeological tunnels throughout the City of David. In Jordan, be sure to visit Petra, an ancient rock-cut city surrounded by pinkish sandstone that gave it its nickname, “Rose City.”

- Antarctica on an Expedition Cruise
While Antarctica might not pop into your mind as a “traditional” vacation destination, it’s a perfect spot for adventurous travelers who want to see something truly unique. Expedition cruises are becoming more and more popular – this is the practice of having a cruise ship take you to your destination and anchor there in a specific location as your “home base” while you see the sights in the area.
Upon anchoring near Antarctica’s snowy shores, you have your pick of how to get around: try a kayak and zodiac on the water or even scuba dive under the ice, or go hiking, snowshoeing, and mountaineering. Antarctica’s average annual temperature ranges from about −10°C (14°F) on the Antarctic coast to −60°C (-76°F) at the highest parts of the interior, so be sure to dress warm! If you’re lucky, you may spot some penguins, whales, seals, albatrosses, and other sea birds during your trip.
