A Day in Cape Town – Bruce & Wendy’s African Adventure

Visiting Cape Town, South Africa

After a week of making their way from Ethiopia, Wendy and Bruce arrived in Cape Town – the official point of embarkation for their Silversea Cruise! Cape Town is a stunning coastal city situated at the southernmost tip of Africa. With its breathtaking natural beauty, rich history, and vibrant culture, it has become a popular tourist destination for people from all over the world, and a popular point of call for cruise ships. Last year Cape Town saw 75 cruise ships visit their ports!  Wendy and Bruce had an unforgettable experience exploring the city and its surroundings in their brief time here. Keep reading for some tips and highlights!

Table Mountain

One of the most iconic landmarks in Cape Town is Table Mountain, a flat-topped mountain that rises over 1,000 meters above sea level. Wendy and Bruce took a cable car to the top of the mountain and were rewarded with panoramic views of the city, the Atlantic Ocean, and the surrounding mountains. They spent several hours hiking along the trails and taking in the breathtaking scenery. There are also guided tours available for those who want to learn more about the history and ecology of the mountain.

V&A Waterfront

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is a bustling harbor area that has been transformed into a world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment destination. Wendy and Bruce enjoyed strolling around the waterfront and admiring the yachts and boats in the harbour. They also visited the Two Oceans Aquarium, which showcases the marine life found in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The waterfront is a great place to shop for souvenirs, enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants, or watch street performers and musicians.

Uber

To get around the city, Wendy and Bruce used Uber, a ride-hailing service that is widely available in Cape Town. They found it to be a convenient and affordable way to explore the city without having to worry about parking or navigating public transportation. Uber also offers a range of services, from standard rides to luxury cars, so they were able to choose the option that best suited their needs.

Other attractions

In addition to Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront, there are many other attractions that Cape Town has to offer. Some of the other highlights of Wendy and Bruce’s trip included:

  • Robben Island: A UNESCO World Heritage Site that was once a maximum-security prison and now serves as a museum and memorial to Nelson Mandela and other anti-apartheid activists.
  • Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens: A beautiful botanical garden that showcases the unique flora of South Africa, including many rare and endangered species.
  • Cape Point: A rugged promontory at the southern end of the Cape Peninsula that offers stunning views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape.
  • Cape Winelands: Just outside of Cape Town, there are several wine-producing regions that offer wine tastings, cellar tours, and picturesque scenery.

Overall, Wendy and Bruce had an amazing time exploring Cape Town and its surroundings. From the top of Table Mountain to the vibrant V&A Waterfront, there is something for everyone in this beautiful city. By using Uber, they were able to easily get around and make the most of their short time in the city. Whether you are interested in nature, history, culture, or just relaxing by the beach, Cape Town is definitely worth a visit.
