6 Photos that show you South India’s extraordinary landscapes

South India has a brilliant variety of sights to see and differs greatly to North India.  The climate is hotter and the food is spicier, but that’s not all.  Here you’ll find beautiful rolling countryside, colourful temples and French architecture as well as lagoons, lakes and waterfalls.

Kerala backwaters, Kerala

Kerala Backwaters

Kerala backwaters are a chain of lagoons, canals and lakes that stretch across the coast, parallel to the Arabian Sea.  Take a relaxing cruise down the waters and witness village life at its best.  There’s everything from house boats to coconut groves, but what you won’t see is the hectic rush of city life…making this the perfect chill-out location.

Hampi, Karnataka

Hampi India

The Group of Monuments at Hampi is an ancient village that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are rocky ruins, giant boulders and varied terrain.  Be transported back to the 14th Century and imagine the traders, farmers and temple-goers that would have made this district thrive.

Madurai, Tamil Nadu

As you enter city of Madurai, you will notice the colourful towers of Meenakshi Anman Temple soaring high above the houses. These bright carvings of Hindu Gods are pretty impressive and are like nothing else you would have seen so far.

Puducherry, or Pondicherry

A trip to Puducherry (formerly known as Pondicherry) is a little taste of France.  With its French architecture, colonial heritage and far stretching beaches, this quiet town will charm you from the get-go.
