As we celebrate Canada’s 153-anniversary we wanted to talk about one of our favourite travel destinations here in B.C. that doesn’t seem to get the recognition it deserves. From moderate to difficult hikes, incredible biking trails, and relaxing in one of the many hot springs this is what makes exploring Revelstoke a must-do for Canadian residents. Whether you are traveling as a family, as couples, or even a solo traveler looking for a change in scenery Revelstoke is suited perfectly with a wide variety of activities and accommodations to fulfill everyone’s enjoyment.
Hiking and Biking
Located only two and a half hours east of Kamloops, Revelstoke is a quaint mountain town best known for its world-renowned mountain resort ideal for skiing in the winter and even better for hiking in the summer. With a never-ending list of trails varying from temperate rainforest strolls to alpine treks and hikes through old-growth forests of cedar and hemlock, there are plenty of options to explore based on the level of difficulty to the type of scenery you are looking to soak in. In addition to hiking, Revelstoke is also known for its large array of biking trails. With options for the more adventuresome such as downhill mountain biking trails to more leisurely rides through winding open roads overlooking lake views and mountain vistas. In fact, the Meadow in the Sky Parkway cycling route has recently been named the best hill climb in Canada as of 2020.
Hot Springs
After a long action-packed day of activities, what better way to unwind than soaking in one of the many hot springs located around Revelstoke. Halcyon Hot Springs is popular for its breathtaking waterfront views that span across Upper Arrow Lake off into the Monashee Mountains. Located further outside of Revelstoke is Nakusp Hot Springs and Campground, another location that offers beautiful mountain views. Nestled in the foothills of the Selkirk Mountains and “off the beaten path” gives these hot springs a more rustic backcountry setting.
Night Life
After a long day out in the mountains or relaxing in the hot springs, it is important to stay fuelled. Revelstoke boasts many local bars and pubs for a more casual dining experience. The Big Eddy Pub and Chubby Funsters are among some of the local favourites with a large selection of burgers and locally brewed beer all at reasonable prices. If fine dining is something you prefer Revelstoke is also home to many high-end restaurants each with its own unique flare. Quartermaster Eatery offers a selection of both North and South American cuisine made with local, natural ingredients. They are especially known for their craft cocktails and their carefully curated selection of BC wines and beers that pair perfectly with your meal. One Twelve Restaurant & Lounge is another popular spot for a more intimate dining experience. Best known for its delicious steak and seafood options this restaurant also has live music for guests to listen to as they enjoy their meal.
With small-town charm and so many activities to choose from, Revelstoke will always remain at the top of our list of must-see places to visit in Canada.
