Where to visit in Cape Town, South Africa

Today’s blog features Cape Town, South Africa – and is the start of a series focusing on Africa Travel! Stay tuned for more.

Iconic Table Mountain…

No trip to Cape Town would be complete without visiting Table Mountain, one of the world’s Seven Wonders of Nature. Take the cable car and be up the top of the mountain in five minutes. Once at the top you can enjoy the majestic views, relax at the restaurant, buy some local souvenirs, walk one of the easy trails and watch out for wildlife. The mountain is home to a variety of plants and animals, so keep your eyes peeled for porcupines, jackal buzzards, peregrine falcons, snakes, tortoises, rookicats and more.

The V & A Waterfront…

Spend some time at the V & A Waterfront, one of South Africa’s most visited destinations. Enjoy shopping, dining and walking around this beautiful harbour. Nearly every shop has a view of the harbour, and there are some magnificent restaurants to eat dinner at whilst watching the sun go down over the city. If shopping’s not your main hobby but history is, then you’ll be pleased to learn that the waterfront has over 22 landmarks – join a guided (or self-guided) historical walking tour and brush up on your South African history! To please the child in you, visit the Aquarium or ride the Cape Wheel… you won’t regret it.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden…

Love gardens? Take a walk through the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, only 13km outside of Cape Town’s centre and situated next to Table Mountain National Park. With the eastern slopes as it’s backdrop, Kirstenbosch is a stunning place to spend a day especially in Spring or Summer. Don’t forget to walk the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway – an amazing bridge that takes you through the trees and offers picture perfect views of the mountains!

A Stunning Coastline…

Cape Town is home to some brilliant coastal views – check out Cape Peninsula (home to picturesque Boulder’s Beach) and Cape Good Hope! If you’ve got time to spare then catch the ferry over to Robben Island and embark on a tour of the island, which includes visiting Nelson Mandela’s cell.
