An Adventurous and Exciting Journey Through Central America!

The Central American Journey by Intrepid, is a wonderful tour that takes you through 5 countries of Central America in 17 days. The trip starts in Guatemala and travels through Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and ends in Costa Rica. Although this tour doesn’t spend very much time in each country, you are able to see a lot of each country because to reach your next destination, you travel by bus. The transfers to your next location may seem like a long time, however the beautiful scenery makes the drive go by quickly. While driving your guide gives you a history of the country as well as explains how the country is today. The bus stops every 2-3 hours for the bathroom, and food or drinks which breaks up the travel days nicely. 

Accommodations

The accommodations on this tour are basic, but all of the hotels are very nice and clean. They all have air conditioning and internet, however it is not always reliable. There was not always hot water. Our guide was sure to always warn us that our accommodations were basic which was helpful to not being surprised by something that was different from what we are used to. Some of the hotels have pools and many allow you to pre order breakfast which is helpful for days with early starts. All of the breakfasts at the hotels were delicious, often containing fruits native to the country.

Tour Guides

The guides at Intrepid are amazing, and made the experience of the trip incredible. Our guide always had a positive attitude, he was up bright and early in the hotel lobby ready to help anyone who needed it. He was very knowledgeable in every area we travelled to and was able to answer any questions we had. He had excellent recommendations on which activities were worth doing, and what restaurants were safe, delicious, and had a fair price. Our guide was always there to make sure all our travels went smoothly. Having him at each border crossing was extremely helpful, and they would have been a lot harder without him.

Tour Groups

The tour has a maximum of 16 people, our group varied in ages from 17-60 years old. As a young person on this tour there weren’t many people my age however it was an amazing way to meet new people from all over the world with so many different lives and stories. It was nice being able to travel as part of a group to feel more safe and have the help of a guide and other travellers who spoke the language.

Activities

You are able to travel stress free while learning and seeing so much of the places you travel to. It allows you to travel to so many places in just 17 days which can often be difficult to do. Although many of the activities aren’t included in the trip, the ones recommended are incredible experiences. The activities that are included are very interesting and educational on parts of the culture of each country. For example the cooking demonstration of the national food of El Salvador called Pupusa was a highlight of the trip! As well as seeing the demonstration of indigo dyeing at a local woman’s workshop in Suchitoto, El Salvador.
