Travel Adventure: Antarctic

Imagine looking off over the railing of your ship only to witness a group of majestic humpback whales feeding; or catch the jaw dropping sight and sound of an iceberg calving…

Those were just two of the many unbelievable highlights experienced by one of our staff and members of the small group she escorted on a trip to the Antarctic. Judy and her group recently embarked on a 2 week expedition to take in the scenic beauty and nature of the Antarctic on the MS Midnatsol. Starting from Santiago, she and her group experienced some Chilean city life including meeting up with a group of local knitters. The group also spent a took a day exploring the countryside visiting vineyards and wine tasting, and stopping at Colchagua Museum – the largest private and world renowned museum in Latin America before they were flown into Punta Arenas where their Antarctic adventure began.

An Antarctic expedition is an experience like no other, and for some onboard it was truly the trip of a lifetime. From the moment the guests boarded the ship, the staff were extremely dedicated, enthusiastic and attentive; making the guests their number one priority and catering to their every comfort. The scheduling of all activities was impeccable and, if needed, the staff readily made changes to get the most benefit out of each part of the trip. Each day included a variety of informative lectures such as naturalist-led talks on the native wildlife and geography of the area as well as photography lessons and tips on how best to capture your favourite sights and moments on camera. For Judy and her group, the highlights of their Antarctic visit were countless. From seeing numerous colonies of various species of penguins, pods of feeding humpback whales and dolphins following one of the zodiacs; from snowshoeing to hiking next to a volcanic lake; kayaking up close to icebergs, and shore walks for all levels of fitness, this trip far surpassed everyone’s expectations. Overall, the group returned home with a profound sense of appreciation and so many unforgettable memories of this most pristine and remote part of the world. Definitely a dream destination for those adventure travelers seeking a truly unique experience!
