Reasons to visit the Marquesas Islands

When thinking of French Polynesia, most travelers will conjure up images of Bora Bora and the Society Islands. Melville lived in the valley for three weeks, after being captured by the native people, and consequently used this experience as inspiration for his novel Typee. The area is full of green mountain terrain and picture-perfect views of the coastline. It is also home to numerous important archaeological sites.

4. The drive from Omoa to Hanavave

There are only two towns on Fatu Hiva, and there is only one road that connects them. See them both by taking a 4×4 drive across the island, and discover a world of lush jungle and dramatic coastlines. This drive is ideal for photography enthusiasts as there are many photo opportunities along the way.
